Colorful Gems Hidden in the Irish Green 🌸🌿

Ireland is famous worldwide for its incredible, almost unreal greenery. However, when you stroll along the local countryside paths, among the rolling hills and along the coast, you quickly discover that this green is dotted with the most beautiful, multicolored gems.

On another one of my postcards, there are gorgeous, traditional illustrations showcasing Irish Wild Flowers. Looking at them, I immediately felt the need to send a piece of this pure, local nature out into the world.

Why is the Emerald Isle so... green? And what about the shamrock?

While writing this card, I found myself daydreaming about the local meadows. Have you ever wondered where Ireland gets that magnetic, emerald color? It is all thanks to the unique, mild climate and frequent rainfall, which keep the grass and moss from ever turning yellow.

But the true queen of the Irish fields is, of course, the clover, known here as the shamrock. There is a fascinating fun fact tied to it! Even though it is a national symbol, in botany, there is actually no single specific species called a "shamrock." When Irish people pin it to their clothes on St. Patrick's Day, they usually choose the lesser trefoil (Trifolium dubium) or white clover (Trifolium repens). Tradition says that St. Patrick used its three-part leaf to explain the concept of the Holy Trinity to the local people. Interestingly, finding a legendary four-leaf version in these wild fields is next to impossible, but it is said to bring double the Irish luck!

What exactly does the back of this card hide?

In my message on the back of this botanical postcard, I decided to share my awe of Ireland’s vibrant, blooming nature with the recipient. I wanted them to feel as though they were receiving a small, fragrant piece of an Irish meadow right when opening their mailbox.

Kolorowe skarby ukryte w irlandzkiej zieleni 🌸🌿

Irlandia na całym świecie słynie ze swojej niesamowitej, wręcz nierealnej zieleni. Kiedy jednak spaceruje się tutejszymi wiejskimi ścieżkami, pośród wzgórz i wzdłuż wybrzeża, szybko można odkryć, że ta zieleń jest usiana najpiękniejszymi, wielobarwnymi klejnotami.

Na mojej kolejnej pocztówce, znalazły się przepiękne, tradycyjne ilustracje przedstawiające rysunki dzikich kwiatów Irlandii (Irish Wild Flowers). Patrząc na nie, od razu poczułam potrzebę, by wysłać w świat odrobinę tutejszej, czystej natury.

Dlaczego Zielona Wyspa jest tak... zielona? I co z tą koniczyną?

Wypisując tę kartkę, rozmarzyłam się nad tutejszymi łąkami. 

Czy zastanawialiście się kiedyś, skąd w Irlandii bierze się ten magnetyczny, szmaragdowy kolor? To zasługa unikalnego, łagodnego klimatu i częstych opadów, dzięki którym tutejsza trawa i mech niemal nigdy nie żółkną.

Ale prawdziwą królową irlandzkich łąk jest oczywiście koniczyna, znana tutaj jako shamrock. Wiąże się z nią świetna ciekawostka! Choć jest symbolem narodowym, w botanice... nie ma jednego konkretnego gatunku o nazwie „shamrock”. Kiedy Irlandczycy przypinają ją do ubrań w Dzień Świętego Patryka, najczęściej wybierają koniczynę drobną (Trifolium dubium) lub koniczynę białą (Trifolium repens). Tradycja głosi, że Święty Patryk używał jej trójdzielnego liścia, by wytłumaczyć tutejszym mieszkańcom pojęcie Trójcy Świętej. Co ciekawe, znalezienie tej legendarnej, czterolistnej wersji na tutejszych dzikich polach graniczy z cudem, ale podobno przynosi podwójne, irlandzkie szczęście!

Co skrywa odwrót tej kartki?

W mojej wiadomości na odwrocie tej botanicznej pocztówki postanowiłam przekazać odbiorcy właśnie ten zachwyt nad budzącą się do życia, kolorową naturą Irlandii. Chciałam, aby otwierając skrzynkę pocztową, poczuł się tak, jakby dostał mały, pachnący kawałek irlandzkiej łąki.
